The business and charitable affairs of the Corporation are managed by or under the direction of a Board of Directors, the members of which are elected by the affirmative vote of a majority of the existing membership. The Board of Directors consists of seven (7) members of the Marcell community and/or surrounding area. The Board of Directors have regular meetings a minimum of six times per year and typically meet in the Marcell Family Center. Directors serve for a term of three (3) years each.
List of Board Members and Affiliations:
1. Joel Karels, Board Member, (218) 743-3131
Joel has been in the EOW Area for about 10 years and is currently employed as a Staff Assistant at North Itasca Electric Co-op., Inc. His duties at the Co-op, are Board Meeting functions, i.e. setting up for the meeting, keeping and maintaining the Board Book, giving presentations and assisting as needed. Joel is active in the community and has been involved with the: Effie Rodeo Days Committee; ItascaNet; Blandin Community Investment Program (BCIP), where I was on the initial planning committee, then as Chairman of the BCIP Communication Committee; member of the BCIP Infrastructure Committee and Housing Committee; E-Commerce Certification Task Force. He has also participated in several Leadership Programs, including the Blandin Community Leadership Program.

A former Itasca County Commissioner, Matt has spent many years in community service. He has a vested interest in the success of the Center through his children and grandchildren who would benefit from such a facility. To date, Matt and his family have donated hundreds of hours of volunteer service maintaining the existing facility and helping with the renovation.

Janice is a local business owner who spends much of her free time being active within the community through her own efforts and those of various community organizations. Janice and her family are committed to enriching the Edge of the Wilderness Community. She brings a variety of expertise to the Board.

Dan Meyer is a local general contractor. He has an extensive background in construction and brings that needed knowledge to the Board/facility along with a plethora of other valuable expertise and insight. He and his family have been involved with the Marcell Family Center in a variety of ways before his Board appointment in 2001.
7. Amber Kongsjord, Board Member

Once a Board Member of the Marcell Family Center, Tim now serves as the Center Director. His tasks include grant writing, project development, meeting & event coordination, marketing, community relations, center development, and in other areas intended to benefit the Center. He works with numerous other Edge of the Wilderness Area Organizations/Agencies on Community Enhancement projects.
