Stokes,
Population 259, increasing with summer residents and 3 new lakeshore
developments. Population wise, Bello, Horseshoe, Turtle/Hatch Lakes are the
larger lake areas. Although Stokes Township is not high profile, it is the
connecting link for the communities in the Edge of the Wilderness area. Stokes
Township is bordered by Highway 6 on the west side and goes over towards Scenic
State Park on the east side. It covers a long area with no central point.
Stokes boundaries encompass 50 lakes plus a lot of undeveloped areas. Stokes
Township is often described as quiet, peaceful, and scenic.

Major Employers: Area resorts, logging operations, and other small
businesses. Resorts that feature dining rooms and gift shops.
Churches: All denominations nearby. Stokes has a cemetery.
Recreation: 50 lakes to explore. Several larger lakes for water
activities. Snowmobile trails. Hunting in the Chippewa
National Forest. Wildlife.
