Marcell, population 468, is the hub of the Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway. A Township of 56 square miles, it contains all or part of 48 lakes. Tourism is Marcell's biggest industry, and the population swells during the summer. Part of the Northern Itasca Joint Powers Board, Marcell has the look and feel of a small town; peace and quiet in the most natural of settings. It is the birthplace of ASV, the all-terrain vehicle manufacturer. The Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center, located north of town, provides services and information to travelers and local visitors and is the center for information concerning the "Edge of the Wilderness" National Scenic Byway.
